Sketch for Arrival of the party at Duroadoo

Undated

Pencil on cream paper
8.5 x 9cm

This is a quick pencil sketch, probably from direct observation, which Becker later used to make a more finished pen drawing.  This sketch appears to show expedition equipment, such as camel saddles, in the foreground, which suggests that it depicts the party some time after they have arrived and made camp.  In the finished pen drawing, however, Becker omits the equipment, to suggest that this is the moment when the aboriginal people first catch sight of their strange visitors.
