Parliamentary Library, Victoria
Royal Park sketchbook by William Strutt
The artist William Strutt visited the expedition's stables in Royal Park to make studies of the animals, men and equipment. This small sketchbook contains vivid pencil portraits of the explorers and the Indian men who had been recruited to manage the camels.
Victoria the Golden by William Strutt
Strutt's own album of his watercolour illustrations of various events in early Victorian history, including the Burke and Wills expedition. It includes studies for pictures which he hoped to paint, including scenes he did not witness, such as the death and burial of Burke, the remains of Wills, etc.
Please note: The Parliamentary Library does not provide library services to the general public. The State Library of Victoria will soon provide online access to digitised copies of these sketchbooks.
